Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti 2024: The name of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who promised to give freedom in exchange for blood, is written in golden letters in the history of the Indian freedom struggle.

Born on 23 January 1897 in Cuttack, Orissa (now Odisha), in an affluent Bengali family, Bose wanted independence for his country at any cost.


 He dedicated his entire life to the country and continued fighting for the country's freedom till his last breath.  'Netaji' was considered the face of the radical ideological youth of the country who were eager to free Mother India from the shackles of freedom at any cost.  He was also the President of Congress.  The life and death of Bose, the great hero of the country's independence history, may have been considered mysterious, but his patriotism always remained undoubted and exemplary.


 1897: Birth of Subhash Chandra Bose, who sounded the trumpet of revolution against British rule in India.


 1920: Beginning of air transport and air mail service.


 1926: Birth of Bal Thackeray, who understood the pulse of Maharashtra politics.  He formed the regional party Shiv Sena and made his way to the corridors of power.


1965: Durgapur Steel Plant started functioning.


 1971: In the conference of Commonwealth countries in Singapore, changes were made in the declaration being prepared on the ideals of the Commonwealth, which paved the way for the sale of arms by Britain to South Africa.


 1973: Announcement of the Vietnam Peace Agreement by US President Richard Nixon and with this the longest war fought by America ended.  The ceasefire came into effect from 27 January.


 1977: Janata Party was established by merging several political parties to contest the general elections against the Congress led by Indira Gandhi.


 1989: Hundreds of people died in a powerful earthquake in Tajikistan.


 1997: Madeleine Albright took over as Secretary of State in the government of President Bill Clinton.  She was America's first female Secretary of State.


2002: American journalist Daniel Pearl was kidnapped from Karachi, Pakistan.  He was later murdered.


 2009: The ban on showing smoking scenes in films and television programs was abolished.  2020: Britain's Queen Elizabeth II approved the British government's Brexit law.
