Pandit Gendalal Dixit : Pandit Gendalal Dixit was the revolutionary who awakened patriotism among the dacoits of Chambal.

Pandit Dacoit | Gendalal Dixit

Gendalal Dixit, who sounded the trumpet of freedom in the ravines of Chambal, was born on November 30, 1888 in a village named May in Tehsil Bah of District Agra, Uttar Pradesh.

Gendalal Dixit had shaken the British government by committing robberies and looting weapons in British police stations.

After completing his education, he joined D.A.V. of Oraiya district in Uttar Pradesh. Teachers were appointed in the school.

Dixit was greatly influenced by the nationwide 'Swadeshi Movement' resulting from the partition of Bengal in 1905.

He formed an organization of dacoits by the name of "Shivaji Committee" and started a campaign against the British rule in Uttar Pradesh by waging a guerilla war like Shivaji.

Gendalal Dixit was an incomparable warrior of the Indian freedom struggle, a great revolutionary and an excellent patriot, who did the great work of organizing not only the common people but also the dacoits against the British Empire.

Dixit was called 'Dronacharya of the revolutionaries of North India'.

Revolutionary Gendalal Dixit, along with a dacoit gang from Chambal, committed robbery at Hathkan police station in Uttar Pradesh. 21 British policemen were killed in this.

After returning from Singapore, he founded 'Matrivedi Dal' in the year 1916 along with many big revolutionaries including Bismil. The commander of Matruvedi was Gendalal Dixit himself, Dasyuraj Pancham Singh was made its president and the responsibility of the organization was given to Laxmananand Brahmachari.

A central committee of 40 people was formed to run the party, which included 30 Chambal rebels and 10 revolutionaries. Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil and journalist Shiv Charan Lal Sharma were also included in these 10 revolutionaries.

Young's spy had mixed poison in the food, due to which the team was in a state of unconsciousness so no retaliatory action could be taken. 36 revolutionaries were martyred in this firing. Gendalal Dixit was shot three times and Lakshmananand Brahmachari was hit by nine bullets, both were arrested. All the injured arrested revolutionaries were kept under military surveillance in Gwalior Fort.

The case was prosecuted as Mainpuri Conspiracy Case, because the party member Dalpat Singh had informed the Mainpuri District Magistrate.

When Gendalal was taken out of the fort's prison and sent to Mainpuri by I.G. When brought before him, he said, you have held these children in vain. I myself am responsible for this case. I have connections with foreign countries including Punjab, Bengal, Bombay, Gujarat, you leave all these. The IG believed his words and released many of the youth.

While being lodged in the lockup in Mainpuri, his colleague Devnarayan Bhartiya gave him a revolver and an iron cutting saw in a fruit basket, with the help of which Gendalal escaped by cutting the bars.

He died in a hospital in Delhi on December 21, 1920 at the age of only 30.
